I have a 2018 Ford F-250 diesel and am about to go outside the 33k miles warranty. Before I call them are extended warranties something you can bargain on the price outside of when making the initial vehicle purchase?. If it was a gas engine I would be less worried about it but I have already had to replace the diesel particulate filter under warranty which was very very expensive if I would’ve had to pay for it

Flood Ford ESP

This place is supposed to have some of the best pricing on Ford ESP. Pick the plan you want and take it to your local dealer to see if they will match it. I did this the last time I purchased a Super Duty and probably will with the one I'm currently in.

To answer your question - yes the dealer cost on those is a tiny fraction of what they try to charge you. You can and should negotiate price down a bunch.

I'm normally very much against extended warranties, but on a diesel pickup they make a lot of sense. But that being said, most of the emissions components like the DPF are covered well past 3 years and 36k miles.

call planet ford 635 (used to be called prestige ford) and buy thru them. got the extended thru them when I bought the f150 and cost was reasonable when bought and even more so when I had to have a head temp sensor changed then all 4 control arms/ball joints. it was probably a break even but deductible was 100.00 and a whole lot easier to deal with. it covered me till about 2,000 miles ago when I hit 125k

And this is why every person I personally know who has gotten to that point of repair, has just purchased an emissions delete rather than replacing the filter.

As stated above, Flood Ford is where you want to get your ESP from.
