Good morning all,
I reserved a campsite at Rocky Creek on Somerville Lake for next Friday thru Sunday. According to their website, they have closed a few ramps and some of the campsites just north of mine.
Has anyone been around there in the last few days that can tell me how good/bad it is on the water there? I'm not afraid of mud around my campsite, I am more interested in water conditions and if the weather is calming down some in the area. Called the number on the site and no one picking up the phone.
I been waiting for this trip for a few months and have never fished there. Hope the weather is clearing up and ramps remaining open on your fav. lakes! Gotta hate to love this Central Texas weather

We went boating last Saturday. Between Rocky Creek and Yegua Creek only one ramp was open at Yegua Creek. It was about 3 feet high and boating past Rocky Creek we saw that the ramp was almost completely under water. A lot of debris in water and several boats fishing the underwater island just west of the ramp. The lake is over 6 feet high now.

Thank you both for your replies!! I am keeping a close eye on the weather and hopefully the front blows on through and water levels start going down. As for the debris, I always take my time on the water just after storms as Safety comes first and I don not have the extra cash to replace a lower unit eeks
According to the COE website, our camp site # still open but the ramp closest to us (the northern one) is closed.

Hopefully you caught a few nice ones Bass Junkie!

We didn’t fish, only soaked up the rays and skied. The Yegua Creek ramp had limited parking and we were lucky to get a spot to park.

Glad you were able to find a spot and was able to unwind!!
I'm not worried about parking as I will just launch boat and I will park truck and trailer at our campsite and have him pick me up at the shore.

I went to Somerville years ago and the water was so high, it was over some picnic tables.

Apparently that is what is going on now as I got notified that all the camp sites at the park I had a reservation for are closed so no fun 3 day weekend for me. But was able to get a reservation in for a much better spot in September. It "should" be dryer and cooler then at least.
I will try to salvage this weekend by hitting one of my local lakes (Belton Lake) for a day IF the rain lets up and does not close any more ramps.

I don't see much chance for September at Somerville to be cooler. That's usually a brutal time in the area.

We used the normal ramp and there was even a tourney today. Which we did not do but they still held it. My buddy Caught a 4 pounder offshore and only caught a few 2s. Carp are sucking all that vegetation everywhere! Its pretty funny to hear a hundred of them feeding under the flooded trees. Lots of snakes out and about too. Interesting day. Average temp was 84 degree water. We found and area with a few million baby shad but only gar were keeping them company. Oh and one mud fish. I lost a big fish offshore but that was about it for us.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Holy Carp!! That would be wild to hear all them feeding. And ya.. I am sure the snakes were bad
Since they shut down our camp site, we went to Belton Lake yesterday morning and wow.. it is really flooded (+9'). Was able to launch at Westcliff which is the ramp I always use, but had to back truck pretty far into water to float the boat.. we launched at 630am and we spent the first few hours just searching on the side imaging to try and figure out what the fish were doing. Found a few schools but most fish seen on the Hummingbird were scattered.. some were at 40' but most seemed to be suspended at 20' in 30-35 FOW. Water temp averaged 82 and there was a thick thermocline on my sonar most of the time. Didn't have any luck in the shallows/banks.. but were able to catch a few throughout the day (we got off the lake at 2pm) and was nice to get back on the water as we have not even tried since all the rain started about 3 weeks ago.
