We did business with Gulfstream (jets, not horse track) and I walked the factory in Savannah, GA with one of their SVP’s. I remember asking him, “Who buys these...top movie stars, athletes...etc...does Shaquille O’Neal have one?” He told me Shaquille O’Neal could definitely afford to buy one, but then he couldn’t afford to operate it. At that time (2009) they were mostly sold to Middle East buyers.

I wonder if super yachts are fun to work on. The owner is usually only there on weekends or weeklong vacations. Does the crew get to party when the owner is gone?

Go price a regular bay boat. I priced a 24’ Everglades with a 300 Yamaha and two power poles, 188,000 without a trailer. It cost another 500 a month for indoor storage if you wanted it. Boats are a luxury for most, cost depends on how big your wallet is.

They talk about some of their neighbors and friends that have ones that are crazy expensive. My dream boat at one time was a 38' Fountain with twin 700 hp I/Os. President of the company I worked for back in 80s and 90s had a nice racing boat on Grapevine. I use to kid him about getting up to full speed and having to shut it down. The dude could not drive worth a car worth a carp. No one wanted to ride with him on business trips. My boss and I figured we would hear about a speed boat wreck on Grapevine sooner or later.

I stopped in a local boat dealership about 3-4 years ago to get a gallon of oil for my rig. I noticed a very sharp looking rig on the showroom floor, I asked the main man what the price tag on it was & he said OVER $100K WITH TAXES!!!!! This was a top ranked bass rig. I quickly lost interest and went on my way.

I've got some good friends on Nocona with some hefty 6 figure wakeboard boats. They're like space shuttles, touchscreen everything. You can dang near operate the whole boat from a Garmin watch. What's wild is they don't flaunt it at all, for them they're just boats to load up the family go pull a hotdog tube. They take them either to OKC or Fort Worth to be winterized and stored in the offseason. Seems like alot of work to me.
