Other then fresh shad this stuff works great. It's thai fish sauce. put some on a small peice of rag or sponge.
You might be suprized. You can get it at Walmart in the Asia food section.

In the Philippines the almost identical sauce is called bagoong but it does not contain the fermented peppers the Thai sauce has which might might make the bagoong more appealing to cats.Almost any Asian market carries this but in my opinion a good ol nasty punch/dip bait smells better and is easier to wash off the hands. When my wife(Filipino) was pregnant with our first she would slice mango and dip it in bagoong........... While I sat in my papasan chair in the corner of our Barrio Barretto apartment and gagged.God I love the Philippines

I have a bottle of that sauce which I didn't like for my catfish stir fry. I will try it as a marinade for my chicken breast catfish bait.

This sounds interesting.

I have some chicken breast slivers marinating in fish sauce and garlic. As soon as the weather permits I will test it against my usual marinade.

I got out early this morning and fished some flooded timber that was out of the wind and waves. It wasn't where I wanted to fish and I didn't get much action. I horsed a big blue from the trees but it snapped the line as I lifted it to the boat. A small blue cat crapped all over me. It was just one of those days. I managed to get four other keepers, though. The Premium Fish Sauce seemed to get a few bites but no hook sets. It definitely had some scent and warrants more testing.

You never know.. the first time someone told me about the red hotdogs, cut up and red koolaid and garlic put on them I told them they were crazy. But I’ve cleaned a lot of blues and channels caught on that. Some good ones too, 10 and 12 lbs blues not just the little guys. Lol you never know.

I remember going to an Asian food store and getting a bottle of "fish oil." The kind Asians use for cooking, not the kind you take like a vitamin. I asked a girl who worked there which one had the strongest smell. I got one - all the print on the label was Chinese - and man, that stuff did STINK! Anyway, I would carefully use it like you would a squirt-on attractant, dipping a ball of Danny King's or CJ's in it, just for added effect. Seemed to work pretty good, and that big quart bottle would last forever. I just had to be careful to not get any on me, or I'd end up sleeping on the back porch.
