For those who fish around Austin area what is your go to catfish lake? I've fished Granger and it's not what it used to be. I have been to Travis but so many pleasure boaters this time of year. I try to stay within an hour or so of the house (Elgin just east of Austin) but may need to expand that range.

Granger has been pretty rough for us too the past couple years. I've been thinking of trying to find some new water myself.

I personally like Buchanan during the week. Don't think there is a Texas Lake within two hours of the I-35 corridor that doesn't see intense traffic on weekends. Have been eating fish up on Buchanan from a crappie dock up by the metropolis of Tow during the week though, bigguns and eaters. (Bigguns go back to make new cats). Have not done as good as usual on the flatheads though. A few smaller yellas to about 28 inches on crappie jigs. Blues on live shad with Carolina style rigs, fish don't seem to have swapped over to perch yet this year. Have never got into channels there.

Biggest one that I have got in so far this year, somewhere between 20 and 25lbs. Had one that would have ate her but bounced out of my net and snapped me off on the edge of the dock.

Hope the traffic in and out of that place doesn't ever make you late to the fishing hole...

No channels? Man I'd love to find a place like that. I'm looking for blues and yellas too. Tow is a solid 2 hours for me. Day trips would be doable but would be better staying up there.

Main lake point in about 30 feet? I've heard of this from a number of guys. I've fished there for cats and never done very well.

I fish waco for big blues. Not much traffic. Once you learn the lake there are a lot of big blues there to be caught. All catch and release. Granger is a dying lake. Never fished travis. Somerville has good channel cat population. Have done ok at la grange, nothing to brag about. Waco, I can brag about.
