Had a shingles's episode that extended from the middle of my back around my right side to the middle of my chest. Horrible 6 weeks of burning and pain I've had in a while

Had the shingles in 2012, it ran from the middle of my back, around under my left armpit. Doctor found it while doing a follow up on a broken hand. Said that shingles often pop up after suffering a trauma. I'd had surgery to put a titanium rod in my right hand. It wasn't all that painful and he put me on some type of anti-viral and it went away within a few days. Got the Shingrix in 2016 and it caused more pain and issues than the shingles ever did. Wife and I both ran fever and had very sore arms.

Very glad they have multiple treatments for it now days. My dad had it really bad back in the early 70's and it was terrible to even look at. Had a friend in high school that got it in 73, it went from the tips of his right had all the way up to his head. It covered about half of his head, we temporarily went blind in his right eye and his whole arm atrophied to the point of looking like polio. His sight came back about a year later and he had to do over a year of physical therapy to regain use of his arm. I got both shots several years ago, and the first one hurt like heck, the second one not so much. I think it matters a whole lot as to where they stick the needle.

I had it when I was 10 years old and it seemed just like chickenpox to me.

Maybe another thread for seasoned citizens. My wife has come down with it. She is miserable. She has a tennis ball sized patch in the middle of her back, but the pain radiates out quite a ways. I am just curious if anyone in the OT has had it and how long it lasted. I will be getting my first shingles vaccine shot today. My wife came down with it about a month ago and she has been miserable! It has went down some but not completely away. She said I should get my Shingrix shot so I went the next day and got it!

I had shingles around 4 years ago, it is pretty bad. I slept with ice packs on my back to relieve the pain. I got the 2 shots for shingles around 2 years ago. What happened to me when I got them other than feeling yucky for a day or two after each shot was I started getting those dry skin warts all over my body. I’m not talking about 10 or so, more like 100 of them. I ask the pharmacist about it and he said that that could well happen but it’s like 1 in a 1000 chance......I’m that one.....I feel special now.....

Got my first shot yesterday and within 4 hours I had a sore shoulder. Not so bad now, we'll see how it goes.

I concur with Dogfish about the 2 Shingrix shots but I am glad I got them. Scary malady to get.

One thing I can honestly say I can’t have Never had the chicken pox is the only way that is possible. Took a special test to determine if I had ever had the chicken pox cause everyone that might know has died years ago. Test showed that I had had the chicken pox so I got the Shingles shots.

I had Chicken Pox when I was young but my wife never had them. Her mom kept putting her with her sick siblings when they had it and even friends and she never got it. Her Doctor tested her and said she had a Natural Antibodies for the Chicken Pox.
