What size boats are good to travel from canyon lake to the creek? I have a swallow running bay boat.

When the lake is full, you can get there in just about anything. There are some mammoth cypress trees in the channel, I mean like rip off your entire motor mammoth, so I’d say don’t get into a huge hurry if the lakes not full. Right now, at this level, I’d idle about the entire way and it’s a long idle. Not sure how far up you can get right now, I’m sure someone else will tell you.

I appreciate the input, it's probably not much different than the rivers I've gone up in the southeast. I usually raise the Jack plate all the way up till I get to a nice bend or if I hit something good on the sonar and then troll for a ways and then idle up and troll

Just don’t go too fast and you should be ok, I imagine the Guadalupe is muddy as heck right now, definitely make seeing the trees (under water) a little more challenging.

The limit is probably about two miles Downstream at the wide and shallow Rapids below Rebecca Creek Bridge for most motor boats even in in heavy flows above 300 cubic feet. A boat motor has to be revved up pretty high to get above that in the rare cases where there is enough flow to make it passable for a tunnel Hull. The previous rain to this peaked at about 2,000 cubic feet, and there was a lot of floating debris dislodged by The Wave from Upstream including some good size trees which lodged at shallows.

I would put in at ramp #11 if you want to fish the river only.

Boat ramp #11 just so you are aware is that it is a steep slippery ramp.
If you have a large boat and don't have 4 wheel drive I would not suggest you launch there.
When the ramp is wet, and while backing down and applying the brakes with my two wheel drive, I've had my wheels lock up and the boat and my truck continued to slide toward the water, and that was with a small 14' fishing boat.
A dry ramp you may not have trouble, but just a little wet and all bets are off.
I've fished from that ramp for years, and it was one of the contributing factors that I traded my truck several years ago for a four wheel drive, and I always carry a tow strap.

Just one more cast!
