Looking at the rules on the THSBA website, it specifies the following:
Liability insurance with coverage of $300,000 is required on all boats used in high school fishing
tournaments. Proof of insurance must be with the boat being used and must cover all passengers in the boat. Random
checks will be conducted. Failure to provide proof of insurance when requested by the tournament director will result
in disqualification.
The full rules can be viewed on their website at
https://www.thsba.net/assets/assets/pdf/thsba_rules_2021.pdf. We would be willing to subsidize part of that insurance cost if necessary to help defray any additional costs to the Captain.
Also, there are additional benefits to the Captains, including side pots, gift cards, merchandise and equipment for placers, especially when you get to the regional and state tournaments. This year's winning team Captain got Power Poles, Yeti Cooler, and Academy gift cards if I'm remembering correctly.
