In my GMC it is impossible to turn off the headlights when the truck is in gear. We have tried all the tricks like engaging the emergency brake one or two clicks, etc. I've even had tournament officials who think they know how to do it get in and try.
But, I don't park on the ramp for 30 minutes.

Have you tried this? General Motors Automatic Headlight System Step 1 Insert the ignition key into the switch and rotate it to the "ON" position. Step 2 Press and release the dome override button (near the headlight switch) four times within a six-second time-frame. Listen for a chime, which lets you know that the automatic headlight system has been disabled.

My 2020 GMC Denali has a round spring-loaded dial switch for lamp control. A slight twist to the left turns all of them off until the next time the truck is turned off and then back on again. I can also manually go to parking lamps only, precluding headlights being on.
What model is the one offering no control? Just curious.
