Want to plan a trip out of Venice to fish for yellowfin with my stepson. Checking the net, the prices for an all day trip seem to be all over the map. What should I expect to pay for a 12 hour trip for two of us. I don’t need top tier, just a local guy with decent boat and equipment who knows the water.
I am thinking $1,000 but that is just a pure guess

I don't think you could touch a trip like that for $1K. I would think closer to $2K or even more. Also be sure a rate posted is with or without the fuel.

Boy, that puts a crimp in the old wallet. Sounds like a good reason for the old fool in the White House to send out another round of stimulus checks since has already bankrupted our grandchildren.

I have been on 25 to 30 trips. They are 3 to 3.5 GRAND. NOW WAY YOU WILL GET A TUNA TRIP FOR 1000. You have Super strike Vudoo and Eddie Burger. I have fish with all of them. 3 grand plus a trip

You have to add in just getting to the Tuna takes a few hours. Your looking at a 10 to 14 hour trip

Thanks for the numbers....guess I will put off buying the new mower and spend it on a fishing trip....I can always mow grass but don't have too many years left to fish.
I did some checking and now see where the tuna grounds are better than 100 miles offshore; this is a considerable difference from the tuna charters I took on the West Coast (Southern California) where you can get into good tuna fishing 20-40 miles offshore and the main long range trips are for Albacore and Bluefin when the currents keep them 60-100 miles away but otherwise they can also be as close as 50 miles. Of course, the yellowtail on the west coast are not the same as the yellowfin in the Gulf (I think they are really a kind of amberjack) and north of San Diego most bluefin are football size (20lb - 50 lb) but you can sometimes get into schools of 100 lb fish but seldom anything like the size of the Gulf fish.
With that said, I appreciate the information, I have been here for some time now and have not yet made it to the Gulf for a trip so at least I now have some prices and boat suggestions.
