Jaxon got to feeling better so we hit the lake this morning. Lake Park ramp was closed due to high water so we headed to Hickory Creek ramp to put in. Usually by now we are fishing the sandbass pattern out in 15-35 ft but the with the lake being flooded we headed straight for the mouth of the Trinity. Water was 71 in the main lake and 74 up north. We anchored up next to the blowout and cast baits up against the flooded willows and some out into the channel. Before I could get the 2nd rod deployed we had our first fish hooked up. For the first hour I couldnโ€™t keep 4 rods in the water. Finally got a lull in the action and was able to get everything deployed. Jaxon landed a Jr Lake record Longnose Gar. I threw it in the big livewell so I could take it to shore and get a weight, measurements, and a witness so we could certify his record. We continued to put fish after fish in the boat all morning. Jaxon hung another big Channel Cat that was just shy of his Jr Lake record Channel he caught last month. We ended up with right around 50 with the biggest going 12 lbs. When we got back to the dock to weight the Gar on solid ground I couldnโ€™t get that sucker out of the livewell. Finally got its head pointed in the right direction and it took off like a rocket and shot overboard! Gone! Lmao! I thought Jax would be upset but he didnโ€™t mind as he was laughing hit tail off too. Next time I will pull the boat out of the water before I try and pull a record out of the livewell.

So much fun! That was a canโ€™t be true but it happened. I love the adventures on the water. There is always something worthy to share and makes a good story.

Thanks Amigos! It was a great day of fishing and every week is a new adventure thatโ€™s for sure. Its pure comedy watching my son fight these fish and try to land them. Jax got half of em in today which was probably the most heโ€™s pulled in. Heโ€™s usually smoked after 10 or 12 fish but today he kept wanting to crank em in. He unhooked 5 or 6 fish today for the first time. The big channel cat gave him a good fight but the Gar swam straight to the boat.

The High Plains Drifter strikes again! Looks like another week of rain. When this weather stops it's gonna stop for good and we won't see rain until the fall. I am glad we are blessed with the lakes being full and then some going into summer. We fished the sand bass pattern Saturday and didn't get a bite. Once the weather settles into a more consistent pattern, if it ever does, we ought to be able to predict where to find 'em. You sure put it on 'em yesterday!

I usually start fishing under the sandbass in early April. This spring I have only fished it 1 time. I have looked for them on the points and humps when I head north but the cats have not been with them yet. Every week we seem to get cool rain entering the lake so weโ€™re still fishing the runoff every week. As soon as they draw the lake back down we can start pleasure drifting again. Itโ€™s been a long time since I had to drop so many anchors to catch fish but you gotta do what ya gotta do. If I anchor fished this much all the time I would have to invest in some power pole anchors for sure!

Dude, I know what you mean about the anchors. My boat is filthy from pulling the anchors in. I had back surgery a few years ago and I can only take so much of that. But I know what you mean about fishing the fresh water coming in. It always produces. It's hard not to go that way when it's like this. Looks like another week of it anyway. School is out here so I will be trying to get a mid week trip in now and then with Jer, Wyatt's big brother. Need to keep him off the video console all summer...

Might try Wednesday or Thursday...

Great job Chris. We snuck out Sunday for a half day and put the smack down on the eaters. Pax and 1 of his friends had a blast reeling in fish. Finally they got tired and the dad's got to catch some.

Very nice. On the Tennessee River, they have it shut down to minimum flow (15k). I couldn't even catch skipjack on Saturday. The only cat I caught was on a Berkley Gulp trying to catch bluegill for bait. I'll let the Memorial Day crowds have the river this weekend.

Took some time yesterday to give Sandy Too a bath. She needed it. The mud from the anchors was bad. She cleaned up nice...

I scrubbed all the Tracker Boat decals off my boat last fall. It was all tore up from fishing the trees for a few years and I did a rattle can paint job on her. IT turned out pretty good. Looks a little dull with no graphics. I just found a place that will make custom Tracker decals in any color, I'm getting be some lime green to go with the neon rod holders!
