Saw this today claiming a new black bullhead record...11 pound, beating the previous record but 3 pounds. The photo to me looks like a channel catfish. The tail is forked. as seen below. Also the anal fin on a channel is generally longer than black bullhead. And channels are generally longer, while black bullheads are generally stubbier. If you're crazy I think most of us are right there with you. I don't see how this could be classified as a black bullhead. All you have to do is look at the tail, or the anal fin, or the head, head is swollen like he's on the spawn. I read the story and I just don't get it. I will be curious to see if this gets certified. My money is on it not being a new world record.

Not crazy. A black bullhead has a rounded tail and 17 to 21 anal rays. This fish has more anal rays. The current IGFA record is safe from this one. I am not sure why a magazine like Outdoor Life would publish the article without getting a verification.
