In a club situation I prefer to just study maps on Navionics or paper maps and that's it, hit the water for the first time on said body of water green as a gourd. I've always seemed to do better when I've done it that way and even won a couple of tournaments doing it just that way. Pre fishing a new lake seems to be the kiss of death for me. Usually don't weigh in anything.
