I’m new to the bluegill section, been mainly bass and saltwater fishing for the last 20 years but now I have a couple grandkids that are old enough to start fishing. I don’t want to take them salt water fishing and catch a bunch of hard heads but also don’t want to travel very far with them to catch perch. Is there anywhere in Brazoria county open to public with some decent perch fishing? Any help will be appreciated.

Look for city, county, and state parks in your area that have fishing available. Usually city park ponds will have plenty of Bluegill that are usually pretty easy to catch. Usually these fish are not that big but for kids they make a great start. Also use google to search for water bodies in your area and that are bank fishing friendly. A light tackle pole 5' in length, six pound test line, a size eight Cricket or regular hook, small bobber, small split shot, and a part of a nightcrawler is all you need. If they advance to can start fishing water bodies with bigger fish. The rewards you will get taking your grandkids fishing will be simply PRICELESS weather they catch or not . Hope some other anglers with first hand information on places to fish for Bluegill in your area will respond. Let us know how you and your grandkids do.

Thanks for the info, I grew up in this area and when I was a kid there was no shortage of places to go perch fishing but those days are over. All privately owned by people that do not want you on their land. I’ll have to do a little research and try to find something.

You might be surprised how many land owners will give you permission to fish their ponds if asked. The worst that can happen is a no. I fish a lot of ponds, lakes, and rivers that are on private property by just asking the land owner for their permission. I can also see why a land owner would not want anyone on their property. The amount of trash that is left behind from people is totally just not good.
