Never fished it before, but will be passing by it Saturday with a boat and time to fish it. Is it full and open right now, also is the fishing worth the trouble? Thanks.

It’ll be open unless there is some special event going on. What are you targeting? There’s a lot of cattail reeds and hyacinth on that lake. Makes for some good bass fishing.

if you have the office number, call it. It never hurts. We drove to Decker from Houston one time years ago and the lake was closed due to a triathlon. No notification anywhere.

Lake is in good condition. Plenty of weed beds. Like stated above call ahead to see if it is open to public.

Go to Austin Parks online and buy you an entrance fee ahead of time. $10.00. If it's not open (and it should be), it won't let you buy the one day pass for Walter E. Long (Decker). Tons of hydrilla, good bass, and some pretty decent hybrids out there. Small lake and not too many jet skis or wave boats...yet. I may see you out there. Red Basscat Eyra/250 Merc. Randy

IMHO it's not worth the $10 entry fee, and Im sure I'll take heat rounds for this post. I get it, grass is good for fishing. Plan on spending a majority of your time clearing grass from your bait (every cast), and trolling motor. It's very small and the large majority of it is grass, no structure really to speak of.

$10 is nothing. April Plaza Marina on Conroe charges $15 Monday thru Thursday and $20 Friday thru Sunday. And to me, Conroe sure ain't worth it. Paying to fish Conroe is like paying someone to kick you.

If you're not punching that grass...you're missing out! When you find one, there's usually a group there. Good frog bite some days as well. $10 for me is better than spending a day out on Travis fighting the jet fleas and wave boats. I spend way more than that on boat gas on Travis.

Does Decker still have the "season" pass card since they put in the automatic machines? My card has lasted about five years I think? I think the gatehouse ladies sometimes initial in boxes that already had been used . . .

A buddy of mine has been getting free entrances to Decker for being a veteran. I don't know if that's an official policy, but if you don't ask for it, you won't get it.
