Wow...the questions! Let’s see...

1) truckers hate the slow passing as much as anyone. Lots of folks don’t know it but the trucks are governed and each company sets its own limits. Most of us have a system that tells us how fast the vehicle in front of us is running. And some boneheads want to put it on cruise and never touch the brake. One company runs 65 and another does 66. And each load is different depending on weight. Neither Bozo wants to let off the gas to resolve the problem. We call it governor races

2) as for cb’s, they are a real beating. Most of the talk is nothing but guys yelling at each other for what is described above or a guy pulls out to pass a truck and cuts in front of another faster truck. This pisses me off bad. The dude is basically saying he wants me to slow down for him rather than him slow down for the guy in front of him.

3) most guys don’t use handles. They call Each other by their company name. Hey Werner, Hey Swift, etc

4) lot lizards are almost extinct. You rarely see them. Gary Indiana truckstops are where I still see the most. But I also tend to park and pull my curtains pretty quick for privacy. I don’t see much for long on the parking lot.

Will you honk your horn for people who stick their arms out the window and pump it up and down?

Are they afraid of getting the Covid? You think they’ll re-emerge when the unemployment bonuses disappear?

Can they, can they draw unemployment???

They would have to report and pay taxes on their earnings?

No, like any other industry the sex industry is short of experienced “hands” who would rather work than get a gooberment check..Mostly just bums roaming the truck stops now with their hand out..

As for the op, I’m curious to know where you went now also

I have a cousin that drives for Old Dominion. Him and his wife pull 2 trailers from Dallas to California twice a week.
He claims they make $125K each. So yeah I would say you can make 6 figures if you get the right job.

Probably living on stimulus checks. Probably would be back out selling stimulus after the checks run out.

they probably do, but, the truck never stops when you run team. you don't spend the night stopped so you can sleep etc. grab showers when you fuel then go again.

back before all the mileage pay was raised I was grossing around 85k yrly and took a month off to go to costa rica. I was at 48c a mile when I got hurt and you got extra pay for layovers and detention now, we didn't.

I had to run hard about 10 months and avg was around 3500 mi. a week, my truck was governed at 73 with cfi.

We all hear lots of stories of people needing a career. Some need to establish one and some need a change and get a new one. At 55 years old I found myself going through a divorce after a 15 year marriage. I admit as a provider I did very little to take care of myself financially and due to some health issues most all of our assets were in my spouses name. Without going into detail on that, I found myself near bankrupt and needing to do something quick. A few months of research and watching YouTube videos and I decided to sell everything I owned, become a trucker and live in the truck.

My first job was with Millis transfer. They hire people with no experience, put them through 3 weeks of classroom time and then on the road with a trainer for 15k miles. This isn’t for the faint of heart as you really need to check your ego before you climb aboard. You are literally going to spend the majority of your days and nights within an arms reach of another man for about 6 weeks. This is very hard for some guys and they wash out at this point. I knew I had too much riding on it and tried to go in with a great attitude. As it worked, my trainer and I got along great and I made sure to just be a sponge and learn as much as I could from him. Most companies pay around $400-750 a week during this phase. I chose Millis because they pay 41 cents a mile for all miles the truck moves. So even if the trainer decides to drive a few hours or even a full day, I’m getting paid. It worked out where I grossed $800 to $1300 a week during training. Now that my only bill was a cell phone this was working much better than I hoped. School costs about $1800 and they deduct $30 a week for your first year. After a year your commitment is done. If you quit before the year the cost of the school is doubled by another $1800.they also gave me a brand new truck with only 6 months experience. Now that COVID has lightened up the back log isn’t so bad and many students get a brand new truck right out of school.

I’m going to stop here. I will edit this soon and add in my new job and how the 6 figures a year comes into play

thumb thanks for sharing and good luck
