Looking to actively target smallmouth in Texas to kill my itch while I wait to go up north every year.
Has anyone had success truly targeting smallies here in Texas?
Not the hey I went to Belton 3 trips ago and caught one but truly got on them.
If so can someone point me in the direction of the right lake to start?
Whitney? Belton? Texoma? Grapevine?
Any info is truly appreciated. Pm if needed.
Thanks.
Blake

Texoma, Grapevine. Belton and then Whitney.. In that order for me...Whitney has very few and every once on while someone will bring one to weigh in..

Texoma. I go to Canada for smallmouth on the fly rod most summers but, with the border closed 2 years in a row, Iām having to change game plans. Just got back from a Texoma trip where three of us caught 35 plus Smallies and 15 plus LM. I caught very little on my fly rod but my old customer racked them up on 8 lb line spinning rod cheating. They love live shad.
Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

There are a couple of guys that have the smallmouth figured out on Canyon. Some nice fish being weighed in in some tournaments.

I fish lakes that have Smallies, but rarely catch one. What do you do different to target them?

Texoma, Grapevine. Belton and then Whitney.. In that order for me...Whitney has very few and every once on while someone will bring one to weigh in.. Remove Whitney and put Stillhouse in there, I think they may be on the rise in Whitney but still very few and not enough to effectively target yet.
