Google Far Flung Outdoor Center. So much to do and plenty to keep the kids entertained. Great food all around you, history, road trips through Big Bend National and State Park. A GREAT place to stay and the cabins are spotless. You can go on Jeep trips, 4 wheeler trips, canoeing trips, and more. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

Rent a cabin in the Red River, NM area. Cool weather even in July and lots of activities for kids during the summer. It's a popular spot but a cabin would give you the ability for her to keep away from crowds, but you'd need to reserve one quickly.

Two suggestions. It's a little bit pricy but think about a houseboat rental on lake Ouachita outside of Hot Springs. We did this last Sept and it is both relaxing for the adults and a lot of fun for the young ones.

Second, I second northern New Mexico. Specifically Red River...you can fish, 4 wheel, have some nice dinners, and sit on a deck by the river just relaxing. Lots to do for both the young ones, and some much-needed quiet time for healing. Make not of the altitude though as it may be an issue for some.

For your wife's safety, stay home. Buy the kids some sort of entertainment thing that they'd love to have. Get virtual reality headsets for you and your wife and let her go on some virtual vacations in the privacy of her own home. Just a thought. Good luck and all the best to your wife's speedy recovery.

There are some nice cabin rentals up around Canton. Plum Lake, Bluegill Lake and Cedar Cove Ranch are a few we've looked into.

maybe just a nice fancy hotel. One with room service and a Spa or the like. Just live in luxury for a few days where she can stay in bed and be pampered, using as little energy as possible.

We have 2 kids, 12 & 8. We would like to do something, but I'm struggling to get wife on board with something she's comfortable with. Would prefer to stay in Texas but willing to travel.

I need some suggestions on where/what we could do to take these kids on a summer vacation.
Think of a place that would be a good fit for a grandparent in their 80's taking the young grandkids (12 & 8) on a vacation. That's probably what we could handle right now.

When you turn to the advice of the OT, you know you're at rock bottom.
So hit me with what you got. At this point, I'll take all suggestions.

Does anyone have a field of rocks? I could tell the kids we're hunting for diamonds....

Rent a cabin at Broken Bow in Oklahoma, relax in the woods and on the water if you take a boat. Beautiful place, people easy to avoid.

Stay home and keep wife safe. Transplant is very hard on the body. I know from experience. Wife's health may be very fragile for a long while. And her energy and endurance may not be up to traveling. Don't take the risk of a vacation.

Yep. I will be there July 4th for 5 days.

Hang around the cabin and relax 5 days.
