Buy an extra battery and keep them and charge them indoors.

I'm on season 2 with a Greenworks Pro and I've been very happy with it. Among the common complaints about battery powered mowers is they are not good at mulching, and they don't pull a very good vacuum when mowing dead leaves. I've found neither of these apply to the greenworks.

Part of good battery maintenance with the lithiums is to store them in the house. You don't want to keep them in the garage during the summer and let them see temps 100+. Also after mowing, let the battery cool down before dropping on the charger.

I couldn't go battery. I love the smell of gasoline combustion engines in the morning. Mix that with the distinct fresh mowed grass smell. Well doggies, .....it don't get no better'n dat.

This is where I probably messed up. I ran the mower in 100+ degree heat and then hooked up the battery to the charger and took a shower. I was averaging 12 months per lithium battery. I would still buy the 5 year extended warranty.

For the record, you can still use it to mow when it is 100+. You just don't want to store it at those temps. You are still probably right to buy the warranty.

Lithiums last longer when you store them at 50% charge. Don't charge it up till you are about to use it.

The plug in electrics are incredibly light.

The battery powered electrics (without the battery in the mower) are very light.

This has been very helpful and I appreciate your input. Here’s another couple questions for ya...

1. What maintenance is required with an electric? With my gas mower, I have to get a tune up every couple of years.usually get the blade sharpened at the same interval. Of course there is gas & oil.

2. What about the ancillary devices like weed eater, blower, etc? Any brand have better add-ones?

Maintenance on the plug in = blade sharpening. That’s it. I use a $10 mill file from HD/Lowe’s

Maintenance on the battery powered is mostly battery related. Lithium batteries like being between 50-80% charged.
