We've bought 6 acres outside of Justin and are seriously thinking about buying a used 5th wheel RV to stay in while we build. The housing market is so hot currently we're contemplating selling our home in town. There are no restrictions at our land concerning RV's

I need your input on what to expect. Looking at 30+ footers with 3 slides. It will be parked for several months while we build so any help in that area is appreciated. Should it be under a cover due to spring weather? Can I just hook sewer up to the septic on the property?

Any other things I need to think about, please list. Thanks

How many people? How big an ole boy are ya anyhows? The baths are small and they get smaller over time. They are great for camping, we enjoy ours for a week or less. If it will be months, perhaps a single wide house trailer would be better?

As long as you have power and water you should be good. I have a 38 footer at my camp in Maine. Three slides, a fireplace, two tv's, and two AC units. For just me and the wife it's plenty big.

if the trailer is rocking, don't bother knocking...

I’m living in a fifth wheel while in school full-time And this one has four slides.Yes I would spend a little more money and build a cover for it. The one I’m renting I have under a cover at the RV park. If it’s a long fifth wheel you want 2 roof ac units Because one unit will not keep up with our Texas summers. The roof air on the one I’m renting does not work and I’m not going to spend the money to fix it so I bought a portable from Home Depot and it works great. Yes if you have a septic system you can hook up to that. Also, if you can buy one that has extra insulation in the belly and the walls and roof that would be much more efficient.

Just me and wife. I do have a shop on the property to get away for a while when needed. Lol

For Texas yes 2 a/c's and you will need 50 amp hook up. Have lived fulltime in a 36ft 5th wheel for 3 yrs. now. Yes you can hook to your septic.

yes on the cover, it will protect from hail and the like but is even better in summer when the sun is beating down on you.

just get a connector for the septic, use sch 40 pvc instead of the hose set up, the hoses will rot in the sun and then it is no fun at all.

learn to take very short showers, you will likely only have a 10 gal. wh, try for a tankless set up if you buy a new trailer.

get your propane co. lined up now, get a big enough tank that they will deliver and be sure it is set to the side of the trailer in case you have to move it.

I couple of things, when buying a RV it pays to have it inspected before putting your money down. NRVIA has a list of certified inspectors. Out of about 25 brand new RV's on dealer lots I only found 1 that did not have any issues.

Another thing that some folks do if it is going to be used in one spot and hooked up to sewer is be sure to keep the drains on the tanks closed until they are about 1/2 to 3/4 full then dump the black tank first and then leave the drain open and dump the grey tank. This will help back wash the black tank. If you just leave the drains open you can get a pyramid pile of stuff drying in the black tank that is very hard to clean out "LOL" flush

OP, I'm a long time owner of many different RVs. You have received solid advice from the posters here.

two ac units for sure. probably upgrade all faucets to the real deal rather than the plastic [censored] they come with. larger propane tank would be nice also for the stove.

This is very good advice. Its how I do it. I also throw in a rv toilet treatment once a week.
