5/2/2021: Friend Paul and I went out today from 2 to 5 PM, and we had non-stop fun catching 155: 152 white bass, 2 nice yellow bass, and a 22 inch hybrid. We went straight to Staubach Hump and saw the best grouping on side-scan I have seen this year. We caught them in 20 to 22 fow. After we got to 50, we tried West Dam Hump, but only caught 6 there. Then we went to Dam Ridge and left there when we got to 75. The last spot was A-Frame in 22 to 24 fow. That's where we caught the hybrid - straight down under the boat in with the whites. The whites were about half magnums and half between 10 and 12.5 inches. We both used #4 Mepps.

Thanks Dennis! I love reading your reports. I hope to make it back down to CC soon if the weather cooperates.

That's a lot of dam fish in that short time of fishing. That's a good hibbie and y'all caught more than Simon Peter wink

I was stopping at 153, and Paul caught 2 more. Anyway, 153 is a target, and nothing wrong with exceeding it. Observation, when you can catch fish straight down under the boat, you can catch a lot more per unit of time. In most cases Sunday, you start reeling from the bottom and they take it immediately.

5/5 and 5/6 2021: On the 5th I took Sunday School member Jim and neighbor Bob fishing from 8:30 to about noon. We had to wade through a lot of dinks to eventually end up with 66 counters - almost all white bass. We hit the usual main-lake humps and points and most fish were caught in 20 to 23 fow. On the 6th, neighbor John and I joined fishing buddy Gordon at 2 PM in his boat. We spent about 30 minutes setting up his graph to have good displays for sonar and sidescan. We caught a few good fish early in 7 to 10 fow near the dam. Then we dropped John off after trying Staubach Hump with not much luck (only dinks). Gordon and I continued trying multiple spots. The best places were Dollhouse Point and Spillway Hump, where we ended the day and where 90 % of the fish were magnum whites. Ran into fishing buddy Cliff there with his friend Steve - also catching big whites on Mepps. We ended the day at 8 PM with 59 whites, 3 cats, and a nice yellow bass. But we probably caught in the neighborhood of another 150 dinks. Both days we only tried Mepps #4 spinners.

Here is picture of Bob with nice white bass:

5/19/2021: It was supposed to be bad weather, but it turned out good, so friend Ed and I went out from 10 AM to 1 PM. I didn't know what to expect with the lake up due to all the rain lately. My plan was to look close by to determine a pattern, then go north to Spillway Hump where the bite recently has been good. So, I checked Saint Annes Points East and West and Pitts Point and didn't find much. Went to Greenhouse Ridge and found them in 27 to 29 fow. We caught mostly keepers with about 40 % of those magnums. Fishing was too good to head north. About 11:45 we saw some birds working at party beach, so we eased over that way and saw fish on side-scan in 21 fow. We caught fish in and around there til we quit. Total keepers: 127 whites, 3 keeper yellow bass, and a cat. We used Mepps #4 Aglia plain silver spinners exclusively.

Friend Cliff fished yesterday as well and caught fish at the A-frame and Spillway Hump. He and friend caught over 300, but I think that included under-size fish. He said there was some surface action there.

Also, we ran into George Span, a local photographer who I discovered does Cedar Creek photography trips and sunset watching trips. Didn't know anyone was doing that as a guide service.

Here's a pic of Ed with typical white bass:

Weekend of 5/22-23/2021: I got out between 2 and 4:30 PM. Decided to start at Long Ridge. When I pulled up to it, birds were working it pretty good. I cast for the surfacing fish a few times, but they were all 8 to 11 inches. So, I let the Mepps 4 fall to the bottom (22 fow) and slowly dragged it sideways and started catching 90 % bigger whites (13 to 16 inches) - a fish on every cast. After I got to 25, I left to check out some other spots. Didn't find any good fish at Long Ridge West, Mid-lake Hump, Key Ranch, or Merrimac Point. Went east to Iron Wall Hump and found a bunch in the middle of it. Sat there and, working the same way along the bottom (21 fow), I caught another limit of big whites and a 21 inch hybrid. Then quit for the day.

5/24/2021: Got tired of yard work and went out from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Looked for fish on Crappie Island Flats. Finally found some about 6:30 on the western edge of it in 17 to 19 fow. Sat there and caught 25 whites - all but one a magnum, and 2 hybrids - 21 and 23 inches.
