Hey guys, my son is looking at buying a 97 Procraft 205 and was asking me about Procraft boats.I told him I didn't know a whole lot about them other than the fact that I thought they were pretty good bassboats . It seems to be in pretty good shape, has a mercury 225efi on it.If anyone here has one or has owned one and share some thoughts on fishability, pros, cons, ride and any other info would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Solid boats, not spectacular. They're kind of like Nitros, bigger & heavier, should be a good fishing platform. Solid transom and stringers and motor is good, I would run one. Won't win any races, but if in good shape and transom is solid, go for it. With a 225 that's an added bonus.

Working towards no name brands

They were alright but not the best, they were one of the original bass pro shops brands like Nitro I think, Johnny Morris shut them down eventually, sound familiar?

I ran one for several years til they tried to force us to move over to Nitros!
Good boats if it’s been taken care of. I had a Pro 210 with a 250. So just a bit bigger but not by much. Not a real fast boat and I’ll say it was so so in rough water.

Pre-1999 were good boats. Everything after are re-branded Nitros.

I ran a 1994 Procraft for 17 years. Bought new. Was put out by the Brunswick Corp not BPS until Johnny bought them out. Solid but slow. Had an XR6 and that motor was great

I have a 97 205 with the 225 EFI. It is a solid boat, it has a good size front deck and a large rear deck that any co-angler would be happy to fish from. The batteries, oil tank, livewell and bilge pumps are all easy to get to and work on if need be. I've had mine up to 72mph going by GPS, but it gets pretty thirsty when you run it like that. There is plenty of storage on the boat and has plenty of leg room. If it has been taken care of it should be a good boat to start with, not the fanciest boat out there but it will get him out there to do some fishing.

In the 80s Procraft was known for speed. Those were quick, solid boats. I don't know about later.

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

I still own my first boat which is a 1994 ProCraft. For a 18' boat, it handles rough water well and has a nice sized fishing platform. I don't tournament fish so I don't need to outrun anyone. I've had to do some small fiberglass repairs from running over t-posts and rebar on Fork, but aside from that I have zero complaints. I paid cash for it 10 years ago, it is garage kept and I have taken good care of it since. I can't find any reason to upgrade.

Well your son will be safe in one. They are tough, a little heavy and slow as mentioned. I ran one for about 5 years back in the 90's. Got caught up in a bad storm at Chambers and took on a lot of water over the side. Chambers was new then and the swells would dump me into the stumps then rise me back out. I learned a lot that day about how to surf 8' swells. It got me back to the bank safely with no damage but I had to ride home in my underwear. Traded it to Fun N Sun. Saw it about 7 or 8 years later at Lake Waco. I ask the young man how he liked it, He said" its fine but a lead sled" He had lined the inside with Rhino liner which I'm sure didn't help the speed.
