Can't let these park rules stop me from fishing.. that's why we look elsewhere and walk for miles...

I went out to the lake yesterday evening. I got there between 4:30 and 5:00. There was some surfacing activity going on and the white bass had pushed some shad into a small cove. I ended up catching 7 before they moved out. I fished the next 2 hours and only caught 2 more white bass.

I went back to the lake this morning. The shad spawn was just about non-existent. I caught 1 white bass and left by 7:15 AM. I sure thought the shad spawn would have exploded during this full moon but it hasn't happened yet.

The lake level is up to 237.20, only 0.8 foot below normal. The Yegua watershed is still getting heavy rain. A couple days of runoff still to come. The creeks sure needed the flushing.

Lake is up to 237.70 ft. 0.3 foot below normal as of 9:15 AM.

I took a hike this morning. For all you Bow Fisherman, there is a Bonanza of Buffalo and gar in the shallow water. There were gar, in particular, in flooded vegetation, in from 6 inches to a foot of water spawning. I would walk along through the flooded vegetation and they would take off around me and my heart would skip a beat. Then one would bump me in the leg while I wasn't paying attention and my heart would skip 2 beats grin The buffalo weren't in the vegetation but in areas without heavy vegetation.

I've seen lots of signs of catfish in the shallows as well. And have caught several over the last week. I didn't see any active shad spawning or surfacing in the area I was at this morning bang

Thanks for the updates, J-Moe. Glad to hear the lake levels are getting back to normal ahead of a long hot summer.

Anyone been out the last two days? Wondering if anyone is seeing shad activity. I think the water needed to heat up a little bit more and that has probably happened now.

Just before the rain storms the shad were thick as fleas on visible lake structure and along the islands (Snake and Deer)

I know they are working on the dam road, but are the gates operational? The lake is full now, and with the ground already saturated, and as we all know from recent history, the lake level can rise in a hurry.

I think they are working on the pumping station for the Brenham water supply and not the gate or spillway so If they need to open the gates they will.

The Lake Level is at 238.55. The Brazos is pretty high right now. I expect they will open the gates a small amount soon. I'll have to take the kayak up from 36 if they do so.

I bet with the gates having been closed for months now, that initial opening will trigger an insane bite. If there is no access to parking lot, that means you should have the place to yourself.
