I've never had a tonneau cover and now I find myself wanting one for my 2015 F250. I looked on line, tried googling "best tonneau covers" and read the different reviews but I'm skeptical of them.
Cost is not a big factor, I just need something to keep things dry and secure.
So what is the best brand? Do you prefer Folding, Retractable, Roll up? Would you purchase and install yourself or have someone do it for you?

I did quite a bit of research before I purchased a bedcover for my 2015 Silverado 2500. I ended up going with the Bakflip MX4. I love it. I won't own another truck without a cover. The Bakflip MX4 isn't completely waterproof, but it keeps most stuff dry on road trips in the rain. If you go through a drive through carwash the corners leak a little. I like that the cover can be folded all the way up to the rear window of the truck and held vertical with the support rods. You don't have to close the tailgate before closing the MX4, the seal will get messed up on some covers if the cover is closed and you slam the tailgate on it. You can fold the cover back 3/4s of the way and buckle it to itself and have the majority of your bed open. You can remove the MX4 relatively easily and have full bed usage. I have a locking tailgate and feel most stuff if pretty secure once locked. A thief could pry the cover open, but it'll keep an honest man out. I was going to go with a retractable, but you lose bedspace where the cover rolls into the canister at the front of the bed, about a 10'x10' box at the fron't of the bed. I also read of people having issues with stuff getting caught in the tracks and it didn't retract easily.

There were some bad reviews about quality control and missing parts when purchased that had me on the fence. I'm thinking if I purchase from a shop and have them install it, I can avoid these type issues. Did you install it yourself or have a shop do it?

I had a shop install it and do a spray in bed liner at the same time. I've had it for 2 1/2 years with no issues. One of the biggest deciding factors for me was usable bed space. I wanted to sacrifice as little space as possible.

I've had both an Undercover flex and a Bakflip on other trucks. I preferred the Undercover to Bak because I didn't like the lid resting on the cab of the truck when hauling something with the cover open. Neither was totally waterproof. Both need holes in the bed for the drain tubes.
This time I went with a Xtang Trifecta soft cover. It doesn't look as good as the low profile covers, but it's damn near waterproof. It can also be taken on and off in a couple of minutes if I need to haul something large. Nothing touches the cab of the truck. An added bonus is they are a lot less expensive than the hard tri folds.
I considered the roll and lock, we get snow and they don't do well in that scenario. Secondary they are a lot heavier deal to take on and off.
Buy what suits ya best.

It does not leak at all, the leak in a downpour comes from the tailgate itself, and its minimal. Had a retracktable before, but took up too much bed space Mine was installed at a custom shop, no issues for past 4-5 years?

I've got the Bakflip MX4 on my truck. Been on it 4 years. Yes, it's not water tight, I'd say 95%. No issues with it at all. Like said, someone would have to have a saw or big pry bar to get in it. Just make sure you get the seal that goes around the tailgate.

I like the hardshell fiberglass. Durable and they are painted to match. I like SnugLid by SnugTop. I've had 4 new trucks, 1996, 2002, 2011, and now 2017 and all have had these lids. Strong enough to stand on. Durable. The SnugTop type don't raise up the profile of bed so you can back up your boat trailer etc. But, to each their own.

Can't say enough positive about the Bakflip 99% leak free, plus full bed usage.
