NO MORE BOAT RAMP ACCESS AT Corp of Engineer parks. There are changes taking place at Somerville and other Army Corp of Engineer parks on Texas lakes! The rules may be slightly different at other lakes.

A few years ago when I turned 62, they were pushing the America the Beautiful Lifetime PassFor $80.00. The pass holder benefits were free boat launch fees, and 50% discount on camping fees at national parks and COE parks.

I was at Lake Somerville’s Yegua & Rocky Creek parks this weekend. It is posted that, as of Oct 1, 2021, they will no longer be recognizing the ATB Annual or Lifetime senior passes for free boat launches! That’s the main reason I purchased the pass!

Be Aware: Oct 1, NO ONE will be able to access the boat ramps unless you have a camping reservation. There will be no cash or credit cards taken at the park entrances. The gates are currently staffed with contract employees but as of Oct 1, the staff will be volunteers only and will be eventually transitioning to an automated entry.

They are recommending boaters use Overlook or a free ramp outside of Yegua Creek for day users. I’m a kayaker and that puts me a long way from my favorite fishing holes!

If you have the same concerns please see the attached link and call to voice your concerns.

These two links announce the changes.

I'm not familiar with this lake. Is the reason for these changes to help reduce the fishing pressure?

You get out of it what you put into it!

Lake Somerville is just west of Brenham. No, they admit they want to cater to campers. I’ve been fishing here for 30 yrs. If I still had my power boat it wouldn’t be an issue for me. But I’ve retired and to cut expenses I’ve sold my power boat and only use a kayak to fish now. That makes a much longer paddle fir me to get to my fishing area!
