TPWD released 90 smallmouth bass into the lake yesterday. These fish were brood fish from the hatchery.

Seems kinda like a “needle in a hay stack” that they will find each other next spawn season in a 23,500 acre lake but better than nothing......I think🤔🤷‍♂️

They were all 2-5lb females ready to spawn from what I read.

One of my guys caught one about 10-12 inches long last November in the high school tournament. That tells me that some survived and are reproducing.

Kinda what I was thinking. Maybe I don’t know how all this actually works.

Sorry I dont read so good, needed to be in pictures or crayon....

97 adult brood smallmouth between 2-5lbs and the FEMALES were full of eggs and ready to spawn. Does not specify the ratio of male to female.

Doesn't Whitney already have a resident SM population?

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Golden algae kill took out most of them and they never recovered, they stocked a massive amount in the early 2000's only to have another major algae kill and they kinda seemed to give up after that. Well almost 20 years without a major kill and I guess TPWD decided to pull its head out its arse.

I caught two or three one day last fall, all on one spot by McCown Valley. They were about 12".

I was surprised.

Never had caught a smallie there before (or since), but thought it was encouraging.
