You're doing it all wrong. Please go back and read the instructions. I know most can't read these instructions without a magnifying glass so I'll help you out. It says to massage into wet hair and form a lather. Rinse and repeat. The whole process should take a couple minutes. Where the extended time comes in is after you apply conditioner. It should remain in your hair at least 5 minutes for it to do it's "healing". I'm starting to understand why so many wear ball caps!
