The buffalo fishing has been amazing the last couple of weeks using range cubes as bait. I have been catching a couple of hundred pounds of fish a weekend. It should continue to be really good through June. Look for a place where fish are rolling. These fish are usually carp or buffalo at this time of year. Chum for three days with range cubes, then use range cubes as bait. Depending on the lake or river, 10 to 20 pound fish are common.

Here's a tip from a very non professional. If you want to chum with range cubes, but don't want to fish with them, most feed stores have cottonseed meal available. Use that to make a doughbait and it will mimic the smell and taste of the range cubes.

Yep, I'll take the bullet and admit I did not know what "range cubes" were until 2 minutes ago.

Mr. O, are you throwing that big fish back?

I don't really have a fixed recipe. Coottonseed meal, a dash of vanilla extract, water, and something to use as a binder. I like the tops off of cattails, but you can also use shredded cotton balls or something similar.

I fish for records so after documenting the catch, I release almost all of my fish.

I buy the cubes 100 pounds at a time (2 bags). I throw out five big double handfuls at the end of the day. After three days you can usually tell if fish are around. I usually fish 5 rods at a time and use the cubes as bait. They only stay on the line about 30 minutes, depending on the bag. I try and have about 100 drilled cubes for bait if I am fishing most of the day.
