TPWD released 90 smallmouth bass into the lake yesterday. These fish were brood fish from the hatchery.

Seems kinda like a “needle in a hay stack” that they will find each other next spawn season in a 23,500 acre lake but better than nothing......I think🤔🤷♂️

They were all 2-5lb females ready to spawn from what I read.

One of my guys caught one about 10-12 inches long last November in the high school tournament. That tells me that some survived and are reproducing.
Just trying to remember to turn my lights off backing down the ramp!

97 adult brood smallmouth between 2-5lbs and the FEMALES were full of eggs and ready to spawn. Does not specify the ratio of male to female.

Doesn't Whitney already have a resident SM population?
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Doesn't Whitney already have a resident SM population? Golden algae kill took out most of them and they never recovered, they stocked a massive amount in the early 2000's only to have another major algae kill and they kinda seemed to give up after that. Well almost 20 years without a major kill and I guess TPWD decided to pull its head out its arse.

I caught two or three one day last fall, all on one spot by McCown Valley. They were about 12".
I was surprised.
Never had caught a smallie there before (or since), but thought it was encouraging.
