After fishing with bait casters for forty years I have been diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease. A few casts in the backyard with my beloved bait casters proved problematic. I would appreciate some suggestions for good spin casting reels.

What are you fishing for?
Our typical spinning rig is a 7 or 71/2’ ML with a 2500 size reel with 20# braid. Takes care of any slot red or trout.
This is for normal artificial use, 1/8 oz jig heads or spoon.
Waterloo Castaway falcon and all star rods
Okuma shimano and quantum reels are all good. They all gets rinsed and lubed after use.

Fishing with my dad in the gulf (he lives in pensacola) he uses either Penn reels or Diawa bait runner. Caught some pretty good size Amber Jack, Red Snapper, Grouper and King Mackerel on them and they perform flawlessly. I hear the Okuma's are good but I've never used one.

As Pat said, freshwater rinse and lube after EVERY use.

My favorite (today) setup for paddle tail plastics is a TTF 7 1/2 ML 2500 Okuma reel with 20# power pro. It'll cast a 1/8 oz oldham jig head a long way and is soft enough to take a big trout or red surge and not cause problems. I use a stiffer rod with Norton sand eel, it needs a bit more action put on it. Rods are just tools. Match the tool to the job.
