I’ve been tying knots to round split rings on baits for years and have always wondered if the placement of the knot matters. Does anyone intentionally move the knot to where the ring ends? Does it end up there anyway? I like the oval designs where there’s two wraps of ring at the furthest point of the bait. What’s your take?

Always on the opposite side of where the rings open. I have had the line work it's way between the rings and caught it before it worked all the way around. Since then I pay more attention and always put the knot opposite of where the rings open

Supposed to put the knot 90 degrees from the split.

Supposed to put the knot 90 degrees from the split. Only way to tie it to get the bait to track right. Old eyes making it difficult in low light.

I use a snap so it doesn't matter. Never had an issue with using them.

I replace O rings with LUHR-JENSEN duo snaps. Never cared for sharp edges on O rings.

The Norman speed clips work well on small baits and ones without a split ring. I use the standard type clips for larger baits.
