Grew up watching my Grandfather scull his boat and I did it until I purchased my first trolling motor in 1977. I haven't forgotten how to scull because I had to do it last year when I floated a shallow river last year.

I was taught by a guy that worked with my Dad back in the late 60s. He had his fave little 3' long paddle and could maneuver a jon boat perfectly. We fished a lot of backwater ponds off of the Tn. River around Huntsville, AL. on Redstone Arsenal. He was active duty military at the time. He could do it equally as well with either arm. It took me a while to learn to use my left arm, but I got there. A great memory and cool skill to have.

I'm not sure I could still do it with my shoulder issues (one side rotator cuff and the other reverse replacement) but I did it a lot when I was much younger.

had never sculled a boat til I moved to Miss. delta in mid 60's....neighbor introduced me to "doodle socking" ....12-14 ft cane pole, sculling paddle in front of 14 ft aluminum boat and you shoved a top water plug under the over hanging limbs of cypress trees in those oxbow lakes....and it was a fun and deadly way to catch bass....that's the way i fished until bass tounrys started back in early 70's....

So ya'll talking about using oars to get around in a boat ? Or is sculling something different ? All I know is we used oars and or paddles and fished many small lakes and ponds, never heard of the term sculling.
