I am sure this is a discussion that has been beat to death but I'm new here so I am asking anyway.

I mainly crappie fish out of my pontoon. I have my own brush piles (so I'm not stealing anyones crappie....) and I want to be able to pull up to them and know if its worth my time to stop. My current fish finder is okay, but I need an upgrade. Obviously everyone is high on the live scope and understandably so. My question is, what fish finder will do this for me the best, without going to the live scope....or am I wasting my time/money by not just getting the live scope?

Assuming your brush piles are fairly deep and you're getting on top of them, Mega Down Imaging is pretty good. Easy to spot fish and bait, even in brush piles. I don't have any experience with the newer Lowrance or Garmin units, but I suspect they both have something similar to Humminbird's technology.

I would get the livescope. I have one , my neighbor does not. When we fish his boat , it is like fishing blind.

good luck

For crappie in a brush pile that you planted, a Vexilar flasher or a Lowrance Hook 5 inch. Anything more is just spending money because you can.
