Just started fishing for whites this year and found a few in the creek and really enjoyed it! Now that the creek fishing is over do you have any advice for a non boater to find whites in the lake? I have been fishing all over for the last few weeks and haven't caught any whites. Do I just need to hope to get lucky and run into some or are there some strategies to find them? I fish Lake Travis and Lake Georgetown.

Watch for birds. If you see them diving into the water throw a silver rattle trap or just about anything. Use your sonar along ledges and river channels. Main lake points that extend way out into the lake underwater of flats. I’m not familiar with those lakes but it’s universal all over the state.

jbobo is right, but you are stuck on the shore from what I read. Going to be super tough fishing from shore. Probably very few opportunities to catch them from the shore most the times of the year in my opinion and when they run up the creeks is part of the few opportunities you will have to consistently catch them. The fish I am catching are a long ways from the shore in deeper water where no shore angler will be able to come close. If you are stuck with shore fishing, I would start thinking about catfishing in spring/summer or even spawning crappie which should be happening pretty quick; and just look forward to catching white bass next year when they run and are more assessable from the shore. Won't be long and channel catfish will be up along rocks and along stick ups on mud flats and be assessable to shore anglers if they are not doing so already. You can throw range cubes out and fish with stink bait and a bobber and likely figure out where the good areas are.

If you really want to get on the fish on the cheap I would start looking for a Kayak, or canoe.. I fish out of a canoe with a suzuki 2hp and I can cover lots of water. I fish out of the canoe just as much as I fish in the Big boat if you average out the year. I grew up in Round Rock/Hutto area and I used to fish Travis "Allot". I really liked the Lago Vista area, and I did really good up from Lago vista. Cow Creek was my favorite but it all depends on the bait. You can get into a canoe for 200-250 if you do some searching off season. Grass is always greener on the other side. Just look for a paddle fishing kayak and you will be on the water pretty soon. And one last tip, "don't baby a kayak or canoe"... Drag that sucker down the bank and get on the water, life is too short. My canoe is made out of the same plastic as a milk jug, and that is what i repair the leaks with. Me and my son already dragged thru the plastic three times. If you are really into fishing and would like to expand without a boat you could talk to some bass clubs and fish as a non-boater. I have no recommendations, it is hard finding a club that is "Drama Free". But you will have fun, and learn some good tips fishing with other people. Doesn't matter if you have a car, strap that sucker on top and get on it.. I purchased a old town kayak and transported it on a ford fiesta, but I am a redneck so it's allowed..
