I have been a certified weigh station for the Texas Parks & Wildlife for over 12 years. The biggest reward I get is when a parent takes his children fishing and then takes the time and effort to get a fish that one of his children caught, certified as a water body record. Tonight I met with Jason and his daughter Anna Mae Mertz of Kyle Texas. Jason and his daughter were fishing for Yellow Cats on the Blanco River in Hays County. Anna Mae had hooked into a BIG FISH and fought the fish while her dad was getting the fight on video. To his surprise his daughter had landed one very nice Large Mouth Bass. Jason bought the fish to my residence in a live well that was equipped with an aerator. His daughter Anna Mae along with her Grand Father were also present for the weigh in. The fish was 21" in length, and had a 15" girth. The certified weight of the fish was 5.19 Lbs good enough for the Junior Angler Large Mouth Bass Record for the Blanco River. Anna Mae will also get the Adult Catch & Release as well as the Junior Angler Catch & Release LMB records as well. The bass was released. Paper work will be filed with the Texas Parks & Wildlife for their review. Congratulations Anna Mae for her Multi Record Catch ! Oh yea one more important factor. She caught the bass on a live Bluegill! Seeing a parent taking part in their children's lives. It just don't get any better!

Great story Chuck. I have had the pleasure of being in that situation on several occasions and I agree with you that it doesn’t get much better. The robust Texas record program with the junior angler records is one of the real joys available to young anglers. Having your scales available is a great resource and I am sure there are anglers that were really happy you had them available. Great job, as usual.

Yes Sir. If more Dads would be like Jason this world be a lot better place to live in. Have you weighed any World Records for the IGFA?

100 Percent right Curtis. If more Dads were like Jason the world would be a much better place to live in. As for the IGFA I have not weighed any fish for them. They have locations throughout the world to weigh fish. Also if you have a scale that meets their standard and you follow the rules for weighing, you can have your scale registered with the IGFA. My scale did meet the IGFA requirements on my Rio. The Rio was weighed by another person with another person as the witness. I also had a witness to the catch.
