Would like to know of this as well. Dad has dementia and although his Alzheimer's doctor said no driving, he still does. He's already called mom once saying he missed his exit and didn't know where he was and fallen asleep twice at the wheel. Hard headed old man won't listen to anyone.

I have an app on my iPhone that allows my wife to see where it is and me her.

Would not help on a stolen car but may on your dad’s whereabouts.

And Donpilot, not meaning to hijack your thread.

Dad drives an old Mercedes land yacht and is pretty constant about leaving his phone at home. These are only the things we actually KNOW about, that he has done.

Now I know I've seen the GPS unit things on fleet vehicles and 18 wheelers, but looking for something a little more discreet then a 7" hemisphere sticking off the back of the car.

You are going to have to steal his car. Seriously. Same situation happened with my grandmother-in-law. MIL had installed a GPS thinking they could find her if she got lost. Got a call at 4AM and she had run herself off into a bar ditch in the town of Cut and Shoot.

Looking at the GPS tracker after the fact, she had left her apartment around 11PM and drove around all night. Drove almost 100 miles just rambling around until she ran off the road. Very very lucky she didn't kill someone.

My wife's grandma was like that. Had to take the keys away which worked for a while. Then eventually had to disable the car and told her they were waiting on parts to fix it. Might consider something like that before he wrecks and kills himself or someone else.

Carjackings are getting common around here. Ebay has small GPS unit with what appears to be a remote activated fuel cut-off. I want to know what they will actually do, not what the vague ads say!

Where you be at DonPilot? And I like that idea, is there a name to look up for it? I know I've seen it on cops shows with bait cars, so there's got to be a market for it.

Directed Electronics has the smart start system. It is mostly security system based, but had a full featured GPS location set of features built in. GEO fencing, remote locking /unlocking, arming/disarming. Worth a look with cars being so easy to steal nowadays. It also has speed motoring features for parents, or in your case children to monitor parents. You set a radius around you location and if the vehicle exits that radius you are instantly notified. It also instantly notifies you of attempted thefts, vandalism’s, etc. oh. It also is a remote start. Haha.

They took the keys away from my wife's aunt who was living in a retirement apartment complex. She was a bad driver all of her life and then it got worse. She seemed to be accepting life without a car until one of the siblings found out she had gotten a ride to a dealership and bought another new car for nothing down.
I would call Car Toys and ask what they have for tracking cars.

I have a friend who had a 2019 Chevy loaded Silverado. He walked into Cheese Cake Factory in Sugar Land and before they could get seated his phone alerted him that the alarm in his truck was going off. By the time he got back to the truck it was gone. From the surveillance video it took them less than a minute to steal the truck. He had OnStar and Lojack on the truck. He immediately logged into his OnStar account and could not locate his truck. Lojack also could not locate it and it still has never been found. The SL officer told them OnStar is extremely easy to bypass and not all areas have Lojack locating devices.

Check out intouch or work wave. These devices can be up in the dash or under the hood at the battery. It's like $25 a month for service, but will let you know at any time where the car is or has been. You can set parameters that if the car leaves the area you have selected it will send you a text message.
