I saw Richard Gene the Fishing Machine use a rubber band to hook crawfish. He just fastened the hook to the top of em with the rubber band. He said they stay alive and will work much better than hooking them so they can't move around as well and eventually die...

They stated alive on the hook until something ate em. Can’t hardly find a wild crawfish around here like you used to. Bar ditches are too polluted with toxic [censored] for crawfish or frogs to reproduce.

I like the rubber band idea.
I buy a lot of my bait, including live crawfish and live crab at seafood markets.

I found a pond in Frisco that I can catch about a dozen crawfish within 30 min. If the water is too high then I go to the Asian market in Plano to get live crawfish and sometimes a filet of common carp or buffalo if needed.

Never had much luck using them myself. I would catch fish with them but not as well as other bait and the crawfish caught more Goo than anything else...lol

Goos are fun to catch! There isn’t a fish in the lake that will pass up a crawfish if it can fit it in it’s mouth. I’ve caught every species in the lake on em. It took longer to rubber band the crawfish then it did to catch the fish. We don’t mind catching Goos either since we throw vback most of the fish we catch any hoot. I quite using crawfish when they became increasingly difficult to catch in my area and I never buy my bait so getting them from the store won’t work for me. If I can’t catch my own bait then I’m not fishing. Luckily I’ve been able to get bait every trip the last 30 yrs. The only exception I will make is for Channel Cats when we dock fish at the lake house a few times per year. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/05/full-99544-94711-75907c14_dd9a_4d91_bf32_beea2b028cde.jpeg)
