No fun, not one bit.
Vet just took a 3 pound tumor out of our lab BeeBee, it's not good, he thinks three months. Until then, it's steak and taters and whatever she wants. This one is going to hurt, so total sympathy.

Update: Still trying to find a vet that can get him in without going to the emergency vet. He was up with me at 6, it’s been a couple weeks since he’s done that. I think the pain pill and a full belly from dinner gave him some energy. I don’t want to know what the glands/lymph nodes swelling up is from, from what I have read, cancer or an infection.

My wife put ours down on Monday while I was in California. She did the right thing, but I wish I'd been able to come home first to see her one more time. It was time poor thing couldn't walk or control her bowels, or see anymore. 12-13 years or more is a good run for a Great Pyrenees.

Don't know if they service your area but there is a house call vet, she did our dog for us (see above reply). Google Blue Moon vet services. They were great, very patient, spent hours with us, and my dog just fell asleep, no pain at all.

Just put my best buddy of 14 years down a month ago. Best buddy Ever! He was getting down in his hips, had a hard time standing up on his own, slipped a couple times on the hardwood floors and never recovered. Got where he couldn’t walk more then 30 feet then fall down and would have to lay there for a while before he could attempt to get back up. Could’ve put him on meds but didn’t want his quality of life to decline anymore. Nothing really prepares you for the day. Sorry for your loss buddy. All we can do is love them and enjoy the time we have together. It’s the little things I miss the most like walking in at night and not seeing him there I’m the floor looking up at me.

Prognosis from the vet is 95%+ it’s lymphoma cancer. She said he is tough and the swelling can just show up one day, but it’s been there for a while. Not a lot of time left for him, she’s prescribing a steroid and another type of pain med to give him some comfort and give me a couple days to wrap my head around this...

Gonna spoil him for a little bit.

Sorry for what you and some of the others on here are going through. I have been there a couple of times over the years. This thread makes ya/me sad.

I'm very sorry, man. I know you're going to give him lots of love these next days.

In the case of cancer, you can wait until your buddy can't come eat but I'd go ahead and do it now.
End the pain for him and start yours.

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.” – Roger A. Caras

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

I feel your pain. It’s tough to put them down and may be tougher when they die at home. My black lab died at home 6 years ago on Mother’s Day. It’s as bad as a human family member dying!!!
