We got ours this week. We bought our place last summer. The house and the land its on has went up by almost $40,000. The other couple of acres we bought around the house has literally doubled what we paid for it. We literally have not made a single change/improvement to the home/land as it was already in excellent shape. We have almost $100,000 more in "value" in less than a year. My daughter and son in law have a couple of acres in Decatur that is county that they are gonna build on. they have had it 3 years or so. Last year it was taxed at $18,000 value for it and this year it jumped to $80,000. Crazy times.

appraisals are the new money grab
The scum politicians claim they have lowered the tax rates (by pennies) and then work with the appraisal district to raise your appraisal by tens of thousands or even more
Here we sit, painted our way into a corner where politicians are a "class above" the normal tax payer and we have no representation
taxation without representation, sound familiar?

Does this mean I get free rods since u got free extra money value? That just means I get to pay more in taxes. I think these new increased property values we are all seeing right now are like monopoly money if you are not planning on selling. They are gonna crash back down at some point.

I don't like the taxes either but it's hard to argue that your home has climbed in value. I bet if you listed it for the appraised value it sells...fast!

Appraisal values and property taxes are a joke. It's pushing people to move.

It would probably be easy to sell it right now but that increased value is not gonna get me into a house with same amenities/similar for less money. I would have to pay crazy values to get into something else so it makes no sense to me to list it. Plus we love it.

They’re sick! Mine went up $80,000!!! <<<<OVER 2020 values. I’m filling out the appeal papers tomorrow. My house has increased in value 5x what I paid for it in 1993. My school taxes are $45,000!!!
I WISH someone would pay me what the county says it’s worth!

Same thing happened when we bought our house. I called and asked why it was $20,000 higher than what we paid for it in August the year prior, because that seemed to be a good appraisal value. They actually lowered it quite a bit.
Complete racket and needs to be changed at the state level.

When I lived in Wichita Co. the appraisal would come out and I would make my yearly pilgrimage down to the tax office to file a formal protest. I won every year and said to heck with that noise. My current homestead is deeded as a house and 40 acres. It is worth 5x what my house in Wichita Co. was and my taxes are pennies on the dollar to what they were. Legalized racketeering is all that is.

My wife's parents had about 10 acres and a 3/2 house that was built in the early 70's. He had about a dozen mature trees on the land and they appraised it as "Timber Land" and taxed it as such when it had never been before. He protested and they said "Tough" it is what it is. He went and cut almost every tree off of it and thought he had outsmarted them. The next year they appraised it as "Improved Pasture Land" which is worth more then Timber Land! He protested again and they said "We will send out an appraiser that doesn't work for the County" and they did. He found the foundation of their home to be unlivable and the County condemned their house. They ended up downsizing and building a new home but then it was worth as much or more than the old one so the taxes didn't go down.

I’ve been saying this for years.
The calculate how much money they can spend next year then raise your taxes to match their bills,
It has always been taxation without representation.
