Hey Robert,

I'm in the market for a new motor too. Ghost / Ultrex / Tour Pro. I haven't found too much info on the tour from anyone who used their own cash to get one. But the sponsored guys seem to love theirs...Hoping tff'er who has one jumps in.

Based on what I have found - pros are it uses cables for the foot control, accurate spot lock, quiet, pretty solid, 3 yr warranty, universal sonar/DI and supposed to integrate with Lowrance

Cons are cost (like all of them) it's pretty dang ugly, and good luck finding one right now (like all of them) It's like they took an old, reliable design and added electronic steer and gps capabilities. Seems like a good idea at first. Will it work? Or, are they holding on to an outdated design with others using more efficient brushless motors and cable free steering?

Anyway, lmk when you get yours installed and I'll come for a test drive
cheers

I’m on the fence about changing to a different troller. I’ve had my Ultrex since day one, 2016 model. It works great. I abused it 3-4 days a week for the last 5 years. It has broken one of the original, thinner cables. I replaced them with the newer, thicker cables. The motor started leaking at 2-1/2 years old...from too many close encounters with rocks. That was actually covered under warranty. The cables I just bought and installed for $24. The pivot bushings have been replaced twice, couple bucks each. Now I have the “no turning” issue. It’s a steering sensor board that I bought last night. $98 on Amazon.

Updated the looks to the current model with new plastics...that was $60.

All in all, it has held up well.

I am on the fence, because I KNOW what I got with this one. It’s easy to repair (so far)...and parts are pretty cheap.

If I changed, the Tour Pro and Ghost would be on my short list.

...as for “cable steer”...I now know exactly how it works...and it DOESNT steer with cables. The cables are there to make the pedal move to simulate a normal pedal. The foot pedal has sensors under it that tell the motor to turn right/left. The Ultrex is truly an electric steering troller. You can disconnect the cables and go fishing. I wonder how the Tour Pro integrated “cable steering” into theirs?

The Ghost is a strong trolling motor and is impressing most everyone that gets one. If you are running Lowrance units now and in the future, unless the Ghost is more than your boat needs I would go with that trolling motor.
