Got a new alarm clock to set next to my old one. I call it LOMAC (Laker One Magic Alarm Clock) You set it to get up late, but it guarantees a magic day ! smile We got on the lake around 9:15 today and fished until 3:00 when it started raining. Water temp was mid 70s and the lake was full. Had an outstanding day with 10 bass & 65 sunfish. About half the sunfish were redbreast, a quarter were red ear & the rest were bluegill. All fish caught in 3-7 feet of water around grass patches. All were caught on Gulp Alive minnows of various colors, BOC (worms) , and various combinations of all baits. All the sunfish were BIG today with many in the 10 inch range and several a pound or better. I don't usually go on Fridays, but sent Doc a text the night before and the rest is history...It don't take much to get Doc to go fishing, even to a lake we had not been to in 2 years. All fish released to fight another day... [Linked Image]

Chuck / Curtis...There is hydrilla coming up every where we fished & we fished 5 or 6 areas. When you cast out, you either brought up a fish or a string of hydrilla. Only saw one patch that had actually made it to the surface & that was near the warm water discharge area where the water temp was 80 degrees...

You guys are having a Dream Year! Nice post and fish. As always thanks for sharing.

Side Note: How was the crowd on Decker and is there any similarities of the bite on both Decker and Fayette?

I missed getting on Decker last year due to Austin Covid Regulations on Decker, "No Boat but you can fish off the bank". confused 3 So it was great to get back on the lake again.
Amazing trip, my best ever on Decker. Lots of peeing going on with these perch yesterday. And some females look like they had swallowed a walnut.

This was my favorite perch of the day. A hybrid of some kind I guess. Anyone have comments on this perch ??

Looks kind of like a pumpkinseed/bluegill cross.

Looks like a blast.
Bluegill X Redbreast, that's a cool fish, it would be in an aquarium had I caught it.

Thanks Steve. The last couple of times I fished Decker the Hydrilla made it interesting. thumb Doc. Nice fish and yes a Hybrid Sunfish indeed. I agree with Andrew. Redbreast/Bluegill. thumb Seems that just about all of the six species of sunfish are inner breeding with one or two different other species with in the sunfish family. The Bluegill seem to be more of the aggressor. hmmm

Great post and information gentlemen thumb

Doc, I caught a bluegill exactly like that one on Decker and submitted it as a hybrid. I too, thought it was a bluegill / redear mix. TPWD called it a bluegill. I still think they are hybrids.
