Since Chad Ferguson hooked me up on building jugs, I've had a blast doing it. It's great for the kids. Have them start catching bream, keep the small ones in a submerged fish basket, do 2 circle hooks on your line, each baited with the small live bream and there you go.

Great way to get kids excited about fishing. That's me in the Skeeter shirt.

Way to go! Yep, it's fun to watch my jugs go under then Boom! almost flying up out of the water. I haven't touched base with Chad ("Redneck") lately. Hope he & family are doing fine. We had Lane, Chad's son, in the 2013 "Lynn's Catfish Calendar" showing off his record BlueCat & all those TP&W awards/certificates.

Also, for more volume & much more excitement, key in on my Catfish Calendar for Blues & Yellows.

I call them torpedo's. I fished with a friend of mine a lot over the years. We would set out about 10 juglines and then fish some spots with rod/reel. After a few hours we would check the jugs. It was always exciting to see them go completely under the water and then come back up. One of our jugs had a 48 pound Flathead at the end of the line. It was one heck of a fight pulling it up! Good times. thumb

Side Note: Good post and some nice fish. Awesome job. cheers

My buddy started getting into those recently. We bass fish like 90% of the time and do so from kayaks. BUT I do like catching catfish and like eating them. So i am going to be making up some jugs of my own... Or borrowing a few off him. He made more than one man needs in a kayak.

Do make sure to mark them properly per the regs. The ONE time I have had my license checked in 15 year of fishing in Texas was when I was fishing with him and it was those jugs that brought over the warden. First thing he asked was who those belonged to and then followed up with "ok and if I went and check them what information is on them?"

He did check one of them on his out of the cove. My bud is very rules conscious so all his stuff was up to snuff.

And JP... Is that HUGE Flatty? That is killer!

Nice fish J.P.! If you learned to make your jugs online would you mind sending me a link? And if not, would you mind sending me a PM with a pic of the jug or posting one here? I've been thinking about making some myself and can't decide on a design, but the more I see the more ideas I get.

I just love jugging for catfish. No other method is as easy, fun, or effective for me.

Thanks for the pic FishinGlenn, jugs seem like a lot of fun to me. I usually fish from a public dock/boat ramp but have access to kayaks and a pond prowler so I'm thinking about throwing some out past where I'll cast when I arrive, then fishing from the dock while I wait.

That's the same thing we do. Set out a few jugs, go fish, come back and check the jugs.

Nice flathead, I hope you released it. They are not as prolific as channels and blues. There are fewer and fewer each year. Keep one under 10lbs if you want one to eat and release the breeders, eh? Flatheads are truly one of our Lords' masterpieces.
