A 70-year-old woman was riding on a bus to go grocery shopping in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles last Friday afternoon, the victim's son told the Eastsider. The elderly woman was getting off the bus to go to the Vons supermarket when another passenger screamed an anti-Chinese racial epithet at the Mexican-American woman. The suspect brutally beat the Mexican-American woman, whom she allegedly believed to be Asian.

As far as people stepping in that is fraught with physical and legal danger. For example I know someone who intervened in in a potential assault with the assailer even getting out a tire iron and her reward was getting a disorderly conduct charge and nothing happened to the guy with the tire iron. We are being conditioned to move on.

It was reported in several papers in California.
According to the article there were just under 4000 racially motivated incidents in the last year.
To me that means we only hear of a very small fraction of them.

Would have made the news if the 70 year old lady pulled a .38 from her handbag and blasted the thug. Whole different scenario.
