I was looking in the weekly Texas fishing reports, not that I consider them very accurate, but it says Canyon lake is Excellent right now. Has anyone been out there lately? I have only caught 2 bass and a few sunfish out of there ever, but excellent sounds intriguing.

Canyon is a difficult lake to fish. The more time you put on that lake the better you will learn the fish patterns during each time of the year. I usually fish the coves, Cranes Mill area of the lake. I mainly target the Bluegill/Sunfish but do catch my share of bass. Stick ups, drop offs, and grass beds usually hold some nice fish during this time of year. I have not fished Canyon this year. When I do fish Canyon it is usually late summer and fall. thumb

I would agree that the TPWD report sounds a bit too optimistic for Canyon lake.

Considering Rebecca Creek on this Sunday 4/23. Typically troll very slowly around rocks, ledges, and points looking for bass using minnows. Would be nice to find the crappie in the creek around the dead trees.

Any other thoughts or ideas welcome.

Is the hydrilla that was matted last fall still there and growing? If so, it should only get better, but I'm sure the home owners already pitched a fit and it will be short lived.

Rebecca Creek, and troll/work the dam rocks area plus work the river below the dam have been the best producers for me over the years. Try to be there at times when no one else is around, or when there are the fewest people.

The vegetation came about the same time as the Zebra mussels. Almost like they were on the same wagon!

I think the 1st thing you have to do is define the term "excellent".
For me lately, if I were to catch A fish, it would be an excellent day. So maybe their report is correct......
