Fuel tank transfer switch.. most of the older boats I’ve been in they no longer work. Cable issues. I have a hand operated brass valve transfer switch in my boat.,

Yes, dual tanks ! I figured it had to do with the fuel tanks, just have not used the boat that much to have to switch them.

It is a TANK SELECTOR VALVE, not a "fuel transfer switch." A fuel transfer switch would imply a pump that moves fuel from one tank to another. (Some aircraft have these for balance management.)

+1, I had dual tanks on my Ranger but it had a switch valve on side of splashwell. I always used gas from both tanks to keep it fresh.

bang Just a lesson learned hard way about the use of dual tanks. A few months ago I was thinkin where on the lake to go next to get a thump. Well took of across lake, got on plane, engine dies. the tank had gotten real low. Flipped switch to other tank. NO START, had to be towed to ramp. Well got it home, trying to get it fired, i had sucked up trash out of low tank. Finally after draining filter{ gas lookrd clean} changing primer bulb to no avail. STILL not running. I disconnected fuel lines & blew compressed air thru em back into fuel tanks. RE-connected fired right up!!! So learn from me. Be safe out there.

So how do you prevent that exactly? Switch between them frequently? Use better filters?
