Had an unbelievable day today. Launched at daybreak and quit at noon. Bass wore me out. Found a place that had some gravel and a few gators to share it with. I could see bass slashing back and forth in about 4 to 6 feet of water. Think they must be hitting a shad spawn. I caught a few on spinner bait but hammered them on chartreuse 5 inch Senko wacky style. There was plenty of timber around as well. I wouldn’t even pitch my rig, just hung it over the side and got nailed every time. Largest was around 5 pounds and she was still heavy and tail was bloody. I lost count after about 20 or so. I would have liked to have caught a few larger bass but it was fun.

I see that's near the state park. Do you think kayak fishing would be doable, or do you have to roam pretty far to find them?

Very doable. Have seen many kayak anglers launch from mason point. FYI if you've never been to choke. Keep your eyes peeled for the big green lizards OMG

I have seen kayaks in that area, just remember I shared the cove with 2 gators, one at a minimum 10 feet. Saw a few more just shy on the length right before I got to my cove/point. I have always believed where there are gators, birds & turtles, you find fish. They don’t venture far from the restaurant.

Three rules when fishing from a kayak where gators are sharing the water, and this isn't a joke.
Be aware of your surroundings, don't do a lot of splashing, and whatever you do don't drag around a stringer of fish!

Just one more cast!

Makes sense to me and I don't own a kayak! thumb

Side Note: I have fished Choke many times in the past. Have seen gators about a quarter of the time. They were all BIG! eeks

What’s riskier than the alligators, is the wind, especially this year. Don’t go to Mason if a North wind is expected. There’s been tons of kayaks at Choke, nobody has been eaten or if they were, nobody found their remains anyways. grin

Wind and the amount of power boats are a kayakers biggest concerns right now, there’s a bunch of both! Don’t be paddling across the channel in the dark, boats can’t see your little kayaks in the dark.

That is a great photo Gator!

A few weeks back, I eased by these 3. They were closer than the pic appears, my phones old and takes horrible pics. I was fishing by them thinking, what kind of crazy “ Mother bleeeeepers” would jump on their backs and wrestle them.
