Spent the day chasing the thump. Got thumped once. I searched hi and low (deep and shallow), creeks, trees, rocks....nothing. What am I missing? Do they just get lockjaw sometimes? I just moved to area so RR is now my go to crappie lake. Trying to learn it but it has been humbling to say the least.

Ray Roberts is a Minnow Lake. If you did not have a minnow bites are hard to come by in my experience.

I'm not saying you can't catch them on jigs, but that lake a minnow always produces better usually.

I know many anglers have great success on Ray Roberts, but I personally do better on other lakes like Tawokini and Fork.

Wish you better luck on your next outing. thumb

I have been getting owned by that lake this year. I usually wear them out on jigs in the creek this time of year but I think the shallower creeks have limited the success.

I only started fishing Ray Roberts about 8 months ago, but I've hit it 20+ times since then. I've fished the dam, the flooded timber between Isle du Bois and Jordan, the flooded timber east of the Island north of Jordan, and all the flooded timber both East and West of Buck Creek boat ramp with very little success. The only place I've been able to find them consistently has been under the bridges by Buck Creek. Places on Ray Roberts that I want to try but haven't yet are Spring Creek, Buck Creek (the actual creek), Elm Fork Trinity River, and Range Creek. It's a bit of a drive up there though, and those creeks aren't close to the ramps, so each one would probably take its own trip.

Hire a guide and learn a bit more is my best advice.

I hit it a few weekends ago.

Buck Crk and hit the timber on the other side of the 377 bridge on the south shoreline. I found (livescope) fish on timber 10'-15' of water.

Ray Roberts has been good to me this spring. They are up spawning mostly but they are not all over the place. Have to cover water and work the area over when you find them. There are fish biting all over the lake from my experience and what I have heard.

I won't fish it until the weather heats up to 90-05 degree days. Hard to get owned if you dont fish it
