No hating here. I’ve never met him but his tournament results speak for them self. Respect.

I’ve used Jimmy Steed at Falcon. Can’t say enough good things about him, a true professional and easy to talk to.

I hired a guide on Fayette one time, I told him ahead of time I wanted to learn a certain technique. Well, we never fished the technique, just deep divers and worms. He headed to a popular spot on the intake and there was already another guide sitting on the hole. He actually just moved in on him and his clients. He got so close the other guy's clients couldn't cast to the rock pile. I spoke up and apologized to the other boat and told the guide the trip was over, head to the ramp. Needless to say he didn't get a tip that day.

I go on offshore trips pretty often and I have never seen the captain or staff ever start fishing. Not sure why bass fishing has to be different. If one thing isn't working they just mention something else I should try.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Hired a guide on Lewisville lake last week and had a great experience. First time to hire a guide for me and I learned more in one day then a year of fishing by myself. I wanted to learn the lake a little better and how to understand my graph better. He was super understanding and taught me a TON. He even showed me a perfect spot to dial in my graph and gave me pointers to do so as well as explaining in detail everything we were seeing on the screen. He wasn't going to fish but I made him because I figured I could learn more by watching him also and I was right. He put us on fish and once we found them he put me in the front with him and made sure I caught fish... All in all a really great guy and great experience and I plan to hire him again in the hot summer to help me learn to catch deep water bass. His name was Chris Baires...

Had one guided trip in Florida a few years back. He let us fish the front deck & my son even took control of the trolling motor. Our guide mostly sat behind the steering wheel and did he’s best to put us on fish. Finally I asked him to fish along side of us and have some fun. He manage to catch his personal best that day. He was very knowledgeable about the lakes and techniques. We fished 2 days and one lake was my bucket list, Big O. We had a blast.

I went with one on Fork, and he did fish. We would graph and wouldn't stop unless he saw at least 4 to 5 fish (all way off shore). He would fish once we pulled up to a spot. Typically he would catch a fish in the first 10 to 15 cast. Once he located the fish we graphed he sat down, and was telling us where to cast. He would do this at every stop we made, but in no way did I feel he was in the wrong. I've never stroked a jig before, and it was insane as it seemed he stroke that jig right into their mouth. Had he not fished or shown us the technique I would have been lost on this technique. I have no issues with guides fishing, and have never felt offended or the guide was taking fish from us.

Recently set up a trip on Rayburn with a guide that was recommended on this forum. When I called him to book it, I made it clear that in the past I had been with guides on other lakes who front ended me all day and that I wasn't interested in that type of trip.
He assured me that he was there to put us on fish and would fish very little himself. Well that turned out not to be the case. Every place we went to, he would fan cast the area in front of the boat and usually catch 2 or 3 before my sod and I had a chance to fish it.
I said something to him a couple of times about this, but he kept doing it and didn't put his rod down all day. He even asked us to take pictures of him holding several of the good fish he caught so he could put them on his website. Meanwhile, we only caught 1 worth taking a picture of.
I swore that would be the last time I hired a guide.
