Lets hear your guided trip stories. Is it normal for the guide to fish all day long? Ive been noticing the guides on the local lake fishing HARD in front of the clients. I thought they are there to put you on fish and teach. They aren't fishing just to fire up a school either, they are flat hammering on the fish having the clients take pictures of them, surely this is not normal for guides?

That not the norm. I run Bent Rods Guide Service on Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn and we do our best to get our clients to catch fish! Most of what I fish is offshore stuff so I typically go upwind, spot lock and let my clients fish off the back deck cast behind the boat to the fish.

^^^^^That seems like the way it should be done. Ive seen this by 1 particular guide on the lake, but the others are fishing hard!

Yep pretty sad they know the prime targets to hit guess that makes them happy when they shoe their clients a big fish they caught. Ive been with 4 different guides and one stayed up front the whole time and fished and caught the biggest that day, he wont get my $$$ again either and definitely won't recommend him. Been with best guide on the lake multiple times. I know several on here say they don't mind their guides fishing i think because they don't wanna hutt their feelings or for whatever reason. But to each his own.

I had one guided trip in my life. The guide didn’t even own a fishing pole. He drove the boat, worked the net, made my lunch, and unhooked every fish.

I have used 4 different guides on Fork over the last several years, some multiple trips and I’ll probably hire 4 more different guides over the next few years and 2 of the previous ones I have used. I like the variety and each offer a different experience or style of fishing so I’m always learning. Only one time I felt like I was getting front ended by the guide and was paying to watch the guide catch fish.

I will say that I follow a lot of guides on Fork on FB, Instagram and check their websites. One thing I will note is how many pics are of the guide holding a big fish or multiple pics of the guide with fish. I want to see clients with fish. I’m always skeptical when I see a report from a guide saying “we got on them good today” or “they were chewing good today” followed by 3-4 pics of said guide with some solid fish and 1 pic of the client with a 2 lber.

Used a guide on Fork back last June.... when we arrived that morning he said the fishing had been really slow for a while. We fished til about lunch, and had caught 4 or 5 small fish......He said.... if yall want to call it a day, we will act like yall didn't even fish.....He said, pick a time to come back and we would do it again. Very impressed with the young man.

A friend of mine and I hired a guide at Bull Shoals back in the 1990’s. He told us that the bass were hitting jerkbaits. He told us to reel a couple of times and then pop/pause back to the boat. We were trolling down a bank with the guide up front, my friend in the middle and I was in the back. I caught 3 in a short period of time while the others caught zero. The guide told my friend “Let’s put down our rods and watch what Planotom is doing to catch fish.” He watched a couple of my casts and narrated to my friend what he was seeing and the big difference was that I left slack in the line when jerking the bait. I’m sure it was 100% by accident and not skill-related.

I was happy - he was a fun guy, made sure we caught some fish, and left me with a story I can tell 30 years later!

back when Glade had lots of hydrilla I was sitting on a bed trying to get the female to bite. The whole time a guide boat keep going round and around and the guide was throwing a floating jerk bait (over the grass) and catching fish after fish while talking loudly on a cell phone. He was talking to his next day's client. He was telling him about all the fish they were catching up tp 7 LB.
Except he caught them all and the three men in his boat caught nothing that I saw.

Eventually I got the big girl to bite. She was the biggest fattest bass I ever landed. And at 23 15/16" I had to let her go. This was before I knew to turn them over and measure the other side. I have caught many 9's and she felt at lot larger.

As soon as I left the guide swooped in the hit the bed again.

Had three trips, one great, one meh, and the other the guide fished with us. With the guide fishing I had to duck quickly to avoid treble hooks from a top water lure that missed the hook set and I used my own gear when the fish were short striking the gear the guide provided. Needless to say I caught more then the guide.

Went with a guide on Fork a few years back and he ran the trolling motor all morning while we were flipping timber, that bite was not happening and the wind got up around noon so we went to Monticello. There were a lot of pre spawn fish moving up and we started catching em pretty good, it wasn’t long before he had a stick in hand and you couldn’t beat him away from the front end, I guess he was fine with us fishing as long as they weren’t biting.
