I went out to Welch this evening. There were multiple fishermen with poles lined up as normal. They were catching a few white bass. I tried wading out and fly fishing but the fish just aren't shallow yet.

I took the kayak out and trolled some jigs around the buoys. I caught two hybrids in the 18 to 20 inch range and 2 keeper white bass.

When I got back to the bank at dark there were some shad spawning banana It won't be long now.

I was wondering the same thing. All of a sudden this is an advertisement thread

Same here. After all these years participating in this thread I donโ€™t like the turn it is taking. I am glad someone spoke up.

I am surprised more don't find it interesting that a boat guide is posting in the "bank fishing" section of a forum on a year when the creeks have been a bust.

IT HAS STARTED!!!! banana banana banana

I got to the lake late this morning. I didn't arrive until 7 AM. To my surprise there weren't poles lined up everywhere. There were 4 fisherman that had waded out and were casting lures. And they were catching!! So being the friendly person I am (potlicker), I waded out and joined them.

It was on fire flame

I started with the magical clouser until the white bass moved out deeper and I was having to wait to long for it to get down to them. I switched over to a 1/64 ounce marabou jig head fly and kept on catching them on almost every cast.

At 8:30 it came to a sudden halt with the full sunshine this morning. I ended up catching 31 white bass, 2 bluegill and a goo.

You should see the millions of shad along the poles at Big Creek spawning ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Like JMOE mentioned - the Whitebass have hit their spring spawning grounds and are HUNGRY. Trip yesterday made quick work on a 2man limit in under 3hrs. This is not your trolling divers/spoons all over the lake! These came from one active schools in 10FOW on main lake structure. [Linked Image]

A question. I fish Somerville from a kayak, started around last November.

Up until last month, I was killing the hybrids in 15-18 ft of water near points, trolling or casting deep diver shad lures. Tons of fish. This month, nothing, but an occasional white bass. Where have the hybrids gone? Do they go shallow?

I usually did Yegua Creek boat ramp area and the nearby islands. What are the hot spots for hybrids, or even white bass this time of year? Thanks!

Following the shad. Keep grinding at Welch point. Theyโ€™re there...
